Fab'One

Fab'One is a French startup behind the ambitious Kaptrek Outdoor. Kaptrek is a bracelet designed to be the ultimate connected guide for outdoor sports enthusiasts. It offers navigation, orientation, physical activity tracking, drone and action cam control features.

Already surrounded by partners for hardware, electronics, firmware, and mobile applications, Fab'One engaged Lenewt to develop the embedded software for Kaptrek.

Understanding the Need

Having already worked on several prototypes, the functional requirements were well identified. We needed to intervene on the technical implementation. Fab'One wanted to limit their initial development costs and ensure agility in Kaptrek's development, to meet the fundraising and demonstration imperatives that all startups face.

Initial Support

Lenewt provided guidance on choosing appropriate technologies and optimizing associated license costs. The choice of open source was obvious—it's in Lenewt's DNA and best met Fab'One's needs. We helped the startup understand the implications of this choice and solutions to comply with the terms of various licenses.

Design

Lenewt first brought its expertise in user interface development to optimize and unify the graphical interfaces. Two objectives: optimize user experience and reduce development costs.

For the application architecture, we maintained the focus on the requested scalability. A hexagonal architecture served as the foundation. This establishes the basis for robust software open to all kinds of changes, even on the electronics side.

On this foundation, Lenewt was able to develop all Kaptrek features: GPS navigation, compass, communication with the user's smartphone.

Moving Forward

Kaptrek is still in development and has now expanded to a second product, Kaptrek Pro Pilot. Lenewt stands alongside Fab'One to make this new direction, as well as Kaptrek Outdoor, a success.
